Memory

How memory works

A Bot remembers things from your conversations so you do not have to repeat them. Here is exactly what is kept, for how long, and how you stay in charge of it.

What is kept

What is masked

Before anything is stored, these are replaced with a placeholder:

Not masked: people's names. That is deliberate, so a Bot can remember how to address people.

People who are not you

A Bot records about people other than you only what a task needs: their name, how they relate to you and how to reach them. It is told never to keep their health, finances, beliefs, location history, habits or opinions. That is an instruction to the memory system, not a guarantee, so you can search for a name in Memory and forget everything about that person in one step.

Chats you share with other people, such as a contact's chat or a shared group, are never remembered. Nothing said there is stored as a memory or summarised, and a Bot taking part in one cannot see the memories you keep in your own chats.

Forgetting

In Memory you can edit or forget any memory, one at a time or in bulk. Forgetting deletes the memory itself at once and keeps it out of what the Bot recalls from that moment. It does not delete the conversation the memory came from, which stays until its 7 days are up.

Deleting a Bot deletes every memory, the stored conversation text they were made from and the conversation sessions.

Export

You can export everything the Memory view shows, up to 5,000 memories, as JSON and Markdown. Only the owner of the Bot can export it. The download link works for five minutes.

Training

Nothing a Bot remembers is used to train AI models.
